How we authenticate Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton discontinued date codes in 2021 and moved to embedded microchips, so the checks differ by era. On earlier pieces we read the date code against the factory and production week it claims, and confirm it matches the model and material. We examine the heat stamp for font weight and letter spacing, check canvas symmetry and pattern alignment at the seams, inspect the glazing on vachetta edges and tabs, and weigh and examine the hardware. Our authentication partners support the assessment, and a final check is completed at least 48 hours before shipment.

Patina, canvas and condition

Vachetta leather darkens with use, and an even honey patina is a sign of a well-carried bag rather than a fault. We grade it as character, not damage, and photograph it clearly. Corner wear, glazing cracks, interior odour and hardware tarnish are all described in the listing so nothing is a surprise when the box is opened.
